Justin Kelly Unplugged – Pre launch of the Album – When Scars Collide

An album for the “Clean up your own shit” generation and those who appreciate honesty and frailty, “When Scars Collide” draws from the inspirational wells of Springsteen and Petty and possesses a raw freshness that’s rare these days. The opening track “If This Is How It Ends” may sound misplaced by title yet it’s anything but. You get the message right from the start that these songs were composed with live performance in mind.

Written by Kildare man, Justin Kelly (Dark States), the album was recorded and produced by American born, Dave Ayers (Studio 51) and mastered by award winning producer Brian Sheil (Brytestar Music). Their own brand of magic compliments Kelly’s tone and lyric.

The songs sound big and Kelly’s American Rock influences have been beautifully sewn into them yet Kelly himself manages to stay true to his Irish accent. Whether singing about a “Pretty Girl” or an ugly scar, Kelly lays his heart bare for all to see and makes no apology or excuse for “being human”.

Track 5, the title track of the album, tackles the physical and emotional damage inflicted upon all of us as we endeavour as best we can to avoid the slings and arrows of life. Nobody goes through life’s battle uninjured but if we can share our pain and expose our scars, we can heal each other. “When demons die, we take back our beauty, take back our light” refers to the mental torment and the stigma attached to realities such as suicide, drug abuse, racism and homophobia. For Kelly, society is to blame and not the individual.

The first single from the album “If This Is How It Ends” is due for release on May 31st and the album “When Scars Collide” drops on July 26th. Dark States are Justin Kelly (Vocals & guitar), Dave Ayers (Guitars), Ger Farrell (Drums), Ken Nolan (Bass) and Padraig Whelan (Keys and piano).

Kelly will perform an intimate online acoustic concert in conjunction with Live Cam Ireland on May 29th to mark the release of the debut single from the album. He’ll be joined by fellow Dark States-man Padraig Whelan and the stunning Karen O’Neill on backing vocals.

Tickets for the concert are available Livecam Ireland – www.livecamireland.ie
